Hi Simon,

A little confused here. Is Henrietta's name WAITE or CROCKETT? I am not spotting her under either name. No CROCKETT births at all.  Undecided

Thanks for the quick responses (sorry put mother's maiden name in the title).  Her father's surname was Waite, a private in the 18th Royal Irish regiment, garrisoned in Adelaide briefly in 1870 or 1871.   A brother, Robert, may also have been born in Adelaide.  Would military births have been recorded in local registries?

Hi Simon,

I would have thought if she was born in Adelaide, it would appear in our indexes yet it does not. Saying that a lot of births were not registered in our early history.

I did however find this

GRO Army Chaplains Birth Indices

WAITE Henrietta Sarah 1870-1 Adelaide The page no is really hard to work out. I think it might be 215

I don't see a Robert listed in these records.

Please note I have corrected my typo above  the year was 1870/71
