Thomas HOTCHKIN of "Woodhall Spa" fame
« on: Tuesday 13 October 09 01:24 UTC (UK) »

The following may assist some people looking for their ancestors.

The 1843 Will of Thomas HOTCHKIN includes a £4,000 trust for both;
“ Thomas Hotchkin VINES the son of Eliza VINES late of Boston in the County of Lincoln deceased and who was baptised in the Parish church of St Giles in the Fields Middlesex on the twentieth day of September one thousand and eight hundred and thirty seven ”
“ Eliza Hotchkin VINES the daughter of the before named Eliza VINES and being of the age of four years or thereabouts ”

I have a lot more information on the HOTCHKIN ancestry, being my bloodline.

Hi, Grantley:

Just browsing through RootsChat when I came across your post.  I am surprised that you haven't had any replies (unless they came privately); I used to live in Woodhall Spa, in fact I grew up there, and the Hotchkin name is well-known.  My grandfather was gamekeeper up at the Petwood Estate (now a country house hotel) during the WWI and he often mentioned the name when telling stories about their time there (he and my granny retired to W/Spa)

Good luck

Hi, Grantley (again!)

I have just checked my books "Voices of Woodhall Spa: A Century of Memories" and "Echoes of Woodhall Spa: Woodhall and War".  In the first, Neil Hotchin, Esq

Hi, Grantley:

having problems with my mouse!  As I was saying, in the first book, Neil Hotchkin Esq has a 7-page 'conversation' about himself and the family history, with lots of photos.  In the second book, there are numerous reference to the Hotchkin family.  What I can do is photocopy the appropriate pages if you want to contact me privately through this site and I can e-mail them to you.

Hi lydiaann,

I never expected many replies to my post. It was really to reveal the genealogical bit that I found in a Will, that may not otherwise be revealed.

It was also to record my interest in the HOTCHKINs and be the catalyst for contacting people with a similar interest.

I will make direct contact with you, thankyou.

Regards
Grantley
