Evan Griffiths B:-1807 MEIFOD
« on: Tuesday 13 October 09 22:44 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

i wonder if anyone can find the marriage record for Evan Griffiths born 1807 in Meifod, Montgomeryshire - the woman he married was Mary ? born 1811 in Llanfair, Montgomeryshire. They show up on the 1841 census living together and married.

Also if anyone has access to the parish records and could find the Birth of Evan - which may list his parents that would be a great help.

Many Thanks

Hi  Katy

I must have missed this one for some reason  Undecided

From the Montgomeryshire Parish Records:

A possible marriage:

22 May 1833, Meifod

Evan Griffiths, otp, bach and Mary Pryce, otp, sp. by Licence.

Witnesses - Thos Pryce and H Humphrys

The closest baptism that I can find is:

28 August 1808, Llangyniew (about 4 miles from Meifod)

Evan s/o David Griffiths and Jane, Abode - Myvod (Meifod)

This looks like their marriage:

9 August 1808, Meifod

David Griffiths, otp, bach and Jane DAvies, otp, sp

Witnesses Elizabeth Griffiths and Thomas Griffiths

Regards

A possible baptism for Mary:

17 Feb 1811, Llanfair Caerenion

Mary d/o Thomas Pryce and Elizabeth. Abode - Llanfair

but there is also:

7 Oct 1810,  Llanfair Caerenion

Mary d/o Thomas Pryce and Elinor. Abode - Penarth

The naming of the children on the 1841, HO107/1435/8/40/20,  makes the second Mary Pryce  (bapt 1810) a strong possibility (Margaret, 7, Elinor, 4, Pryce 3, Thomas 1) and the 1833 marriage would fit with the age of the eldest child.

I see (from the 1861)  that they also had a Jane but no David

Thank you again Gadget - just put all this info into the tree and it look great! I also agree with you about the 2nd Mary birth as like you say the names match perfectly.
The witnesses to the marriage of David Griffiths and Jane - could they be Davids Parents??

Can i ask where you got the info from? Im keen to dig even deeper with the Griffiths!

Many Thanks

Hi again

I'm not sure about the witnesses but this might be David's baptism:

13 Feb 1782, Meifod

David s/o David Griffiths and Elizabeth. Abode - Maine

and they also had a son Thomas:

28 October 1785, Meifod (b. 20 Oct)

Thomas s/o David Griffiths and Elizabeth. Abode - Maine

So the Thomas who was a witness might have been David's brother.
