Ruddy marries a McLaughlin near rooskey
« on: Tuesday 13 October 09 22:49 UTC (UK) »

My great grandmother appears to be a Jane Ruddy. She married an Andrew McLaughlin around 1900. Always thought Jane's maiden name was also a McLaughlin. any one know this couple? The one daughter Mary Anne born 1903 was my grandmother! Thanks Bob

Agnes comes through again! Yes that is the family. You helped me on my Doherty line before. Thank you! Bob

Would a marriage record be available to get her maiden name confirmed? Thanks again, Bob

Agnes, could I bother you to please check the census for a Ruddy family close by and possibly a Ruddy family in 1901 with a Jane around 20 years old to find Janes mom and dad? That would be greatly appreciated! Bob

Hi,
I think that you were correct in that Jane's maiden name was McLaughlin. A search in the LDS Record Search pilot site gives a marriage of Andrew Mclaughlin in Oct-Dec quarter 1901 in Inishowen Registration District. Vol 2 Page 116. The same information comes up for Jane McLaughlin.

The 1911 census is online at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
There are so many Mclaughlins in the area and mcLaughlins marrying mcLaughlins; Ruddy may have been a nickname.

thanks to all of you for the help with the Ruddy mixup. My two families were indeed both McLaughlins. Andrews father is uncertain, but believed to be Andrew, Hugh, or Iwen. Jane's father was Thomas. Now thinking Jane's mom may have been a Ruddy. Does the 1901 census have a Thomas with a daughter named Jane in it aged 20? Thanks for the help!

Thank you! I did find out that Jane's father was Thomas and Andrew's father was either Andrew or Owen (Hugh).
