Hi Jules and welcome to RC. the war graves commision lists Lancs memorials on this site but Fleetwood does not seem to have a seperate one. i do not know the area.

http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Lancashire/

also the CWGC site at:

www.cwgc.org

has some download assembly ideaas for schools!! scroll down to the learning zone and scroll down to asemblies.

ALSO seems like lancs county library service may be able to help you. go to site::

There is a comprehensive listing for WW1 named 'Soldiers Died in the Great War'.  It was first published in separate printed volumes for each regiment and corps but has been put onto a CD and may be available on family history websites - I am not a subscriber so cannot give details - or at a large library.
It is possible to search by place of enlistment or place of birth, and so should bring up a string of names, which can then be cross-checked with the CWGC online register and with any local Fleetwood memorial.
A school near me has a November assembly when their old boys' names are read out by current scholars, and it is good to involve them.
Good luck with the project.

Jules, I'm not sure where the memorial is in Fleetwood, but there is a large one at the Metropol Hotel on the front at Blackpool, unsure if they will have the names of Fleetwood WW1 service personnel on it

HI

I've got the name of one man who was born in Fleetwood and buried in Dickebusch New Military Cemetery Extension, Belgium B 29

Would that have been the same cemetery that you speak of?

He was born in 1898 Fleetwood but by the 1901 census he was living in Kent.

Let me know if you want this mans name.

Wow!  what a fab site this is.... I have had some very positive responses. Thank you Diddymiller, ainslie and johnboy!
I live in Fleetwood and will visit the memorial in the local park to search for names.  Also going to library to research military records there.

Wendy, it was Thiepval cemetery where I came across the records in the first place and would love to know the name of the Fleetwood man please.

I want to do a rollcall in assembly just as Ainslie mentioned as I do think it will mean more to students to hear familiar names who could also be possible relatives.

Thanks again everyone  Cheesy

Hi there

Fleetwood has nothing to do with my family but thought I would search the New Zealand site for you. It has 3 Fleetwoods for WW1. Don't know if they are you or not. Christopher Gilbert Fleetwood, Joseph Fleetwood and Samuel Fleetwood. The site is: www.muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/centoph/searchresults.aspx. If it is any good for you then you can click on the surname and it gives you (most times) the next of kin and sometimes the spouse.

Good luck

Today I have received the comprehensive list from the CWGC and I am over the moon!  I am going to make crosses so that we can put the soldiers names on and have them read out in school assembly.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my posting, I had leads from all of you and that was much appreciated!  I hope that at some stage I can offer someone assistance, even in some small way.

My enquiry is now solved.

Thanks again-you're all stars!

Hi

That was fast for them to get back to you so soon.

Will you get permission to record the special assembly your organising?  That way then you've go it all at hand again if ever needed.

Hi Wendy

I agree, it was quick, but I'm not complaining - I am certainly very impressed and can reccommend anyone to contact them.  They also offered to send me an information pack that I can use for the assembly, which is an added bonus too!  I am very excited about the assembly now, so fingers crossed it all goes well.

Thank you
