Hello
I have hit a brick wall with this.
I have Jane Low she married Alexander Low 1856, St Nicholas, now it Say's on her marriage certificate that her Father was John Low and her Mother was Jean Daniel, Now when Jane died her Father and Mother have different names her son was the informant( so I take it he did not know his Grandparents names).
I found the marriage for John Low and Jean Daniel they got married 1784 St Nicholas.
I can not find a birth for Jane Low she would of been born anytime between 1801 and 1810.
When Jane married Alexander in 1856 her parents were both deceased.
I have look on the 1841 and 1851 census for them also Family Search and Scotlands People for a birth on Jane/Jean but had no Joy.
So I was hoping some one can help.

Hi,you said you have Jane's marriage certificate.What is her age on that? Why have you said she could've been born between 1801 & 1810.Is her age out by 9 years on her death certificate? It might be helpful if you told us the names given on her death certificate even if they are different.Hopefully someone will be able to assist in your search for further information.

Was Alexander a clergyman? there is some info on the 1871 census for Alexander ( a clergyman) at Longside and Jane also a Jane Low in the St Nicholas poorhouse on 1891 census

when Jane died  in 1887 it Say's on her certificate her parents were Robert Low and Ann ?.
When Jane married she was 47 years old , so that would mean she was born 1809, 1851 census age 40 - born 1811, 1871 census age 64- born 1807. Can not find her on the 1881 census.
Her Husband Alexander was a seaman.

Hi akc,
Did it have the age of Jane Low in the poor house on the 1891 census.
I have Alexander Low and Jane Low daughter Jane she was born abt 1847, St Nicholas, I was wondering if this could be her.
Also they had a son James he was b.1843.

Hi! couldnt have been her in the poorhouse if she died in 1887

On the 1881 census there is a jane low at charles court, upperkgate, st nicholas, she is an annuitant aged 75  living with a family called sandison

I do not know if this is her or not, all the way through her married life she stayed at castle street Aberdeen. I have not come across the name Sandison, When she died she stayed with her Son James at Shoe lane Aberdeen.

Hi again, found your folks in aberdeen on 1861 census at 45 castle street, alexander is a gas works labourer and james is 17 ( makes his birth date before their marriage date ? )
also found a tree on a site with alexanders parents as robert low and jean bean, and roberts parents as john low and margaret hay
also has alexander born at foveran 22/11/1794 died 27/7/1874
not a lot of info on jane except her death in 1887

on 1851 census they are married, are you sure you have the correct marriage date?

Hi Folks,
before I start I would like to say a big thank you to you both for your help Grin
Alexander and Jane were married 1856 they both stayed at 45 Castle Street Aberdeen, and it has their right parents.
On their marriage certificate it has Alexander as a seaman and a Widower.
So I don't know, who to and when, it never said anything on his death certificate just the marriage certificate.
So thank You once again for the help.
I am away to look up Jane's birth on IGI, That was great finding that.

I do not think this is Jean's/Jane birth, it Say's her father is John Low and mother is Jean Murray.
So I think back to the drawing board with this one.

Alexander and Jane married in 1856 and James and Jane were born in the 1840,s so they must have been born to Alexander or Jane before they were married to each other. Any chance that Jane was married before? or do the children belong to Alexander!

Hi akc,
James was born 1843, Aberdeen his Dad was Alexander , and Jane was 4 year old 0n the 1851 census.
Jane was a spinster when she married Alexander.
On the marriage certificate it Say's Alexander age is 55 and Jane/Jean is 47.
Then on the 1851 Census Alexander is 55 and Jane/Jean 40

only jane low i can find on igi is born 9 feb 1808 to john low and mary leighten st nicholas, aberdeen

found james death cert on scotlands people ( 1921 aged 78 at newhills aberdeen ) and it says his parents are alexander low and jane low ms low ( it seems they had 2 children before they married in 1856 ) still trying to find out where she was before she married alexander!

there is a jane low born aberdeenshire on 1841 census at windyhills, logie buchan aged 30 it looks the most likely
