I have found an extracted record on IGI for the above.  John's parents were John and Elizabeth.  There is also a possible sister Amelia bapt 1823.

If anyone happens to have access to the registers I would be very grateful for any further information the original entries may give.

It looks like this is the right John as he stated his father was an excise officer on his marriage certificate.
