Sarah MATHEWS, b.1820's, Eardington (Bridgnorth)
« on: Wednesday 14 October 09 19:50 UTC (UK) »

Hoping someone may have access to parish records for St. Leonard/St. Mary Magdalene churches in Bridgnorth, and be willing to do a lookup please?

Sarah Mathews b. 1820/1821, Eardington; d. 1854, West Bromwich
father: Thomas Mathews, laborer
husband: Thomas Budd (m. Apr. 27, 1845, Shenstone, Staffs.)

I had started this thread on the Warwickshire board, going on the assumption that Sarah was from Erdington (Birmingham). This is the link to the thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,405241.0.html

The Warwickshire thread yielded great info on my Budd family, but the Mathews' were not to be found. A recent request for information from the Birmingham Library & Archive Service confirmed I was not looking in the correct place, as searches of registers of five local churches turned up empty.
I have found a few 1841 census entries in Shropshire that may be either Thomas or Sarah Mathews, I can't be sure as it appears Sarah is no longer living at home then.

Any leads or information would be very helpful. Grin

Apart from those two main CoE churches in Bridgnorth, you should be considering Quatford church. Eardington near Bridgnorth is in the Parish of Quatford. Villagers from Eardington would use a ferry to cross the river Severn to attend Quatford church.
Also check Oldbury Church, on the Eardington side of Bridgnorth.

Hi Gwynne,

Many thanks for your advice. I just received my information from Birmingham today, and after brief search of the web I figured since there was no church in Eardington proper, the most likely church would be in Bridgnorth.

I hesitate to ask, CoE meaning Church of England? Embarrassed

In that case, are either Quatford or Oldbury Churches of a different denomination?
