Mahon, Martin and Patrick William

I cannot find any trace of these brothers  born in New Zealand. Martin Mahon born 25 Dec 1872, Confirmal 1886.  Patrick William Mahon born 15 Aug 1881.  I have searched BDM sites in NZ and Australia. Tried variations on spelling without success.  They are not on any electoral roll I have seen.  Where would an experienced researcher look next?  They came from a family of 14 siblings.  I have traced all but these 2.  No other family group working on their branch of the Mahon tree have anything more.   Martin's parents were Martin Mahon and Mary (nee Lynch) Mary died days after giving birth.  Patrick's parents Martin Mahon and Annie (nee Galvin).  I have been searching for a few months and don't know where to look next. Both were listed as living issue on their father's death certificate in 1904.

1881/6121 has Patrick William Mahon  parents William and Annie. Cheesy

Have you discounted the Martin MAHER registered in 1873/6979 no parents details given? Roll Eyes

Thank you.  Sorry I worded it badly.  I have the birth certificate for Patrick William but cannot find anything after that.  With the exception of a reference to an eye injury  in 1905 (fully recovered).

Now! the gem about Martin Maher does have my heart racing.   Since posting this I have found his death (died in Victoria, Australia) but I have never found his birth registration.  The only record I was able to get was the Baptism through the Catholic Archives. 

Thank you again.  I will be ordering the certificate. I have no doubt it will be my Martin Mahon.

Hi,

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

When Martin did he die in Victoria, Victorian death certificates have full deails (if known by the person reporting the death) aprents, spouse, children living and dead etc.

These are available on line and also online collection for a dee from here in the historical indexes

I can do some searching if you give me lace and date of death if you would like

Thank you for your offer of help.  I was able to get the death certificate.  It listed a wife Mary Adelaide Hunter and a child Francis 42.   50 years in Victoria.  I tried to find the marriage certificate (happy to pay) but returned zero.   I will try and get the birth for Francis next.  I did find an entry on the 1914 electoral role for Martin Mahon and I think Margaret Mahon (will double check).

Hello,

Like you experienced I found zero marriages for Martin Mahon and for that case for Mary Adelaide Hunter. Checked Vic, WA, NSW, QLD, NZ. to 1920

I did uncover a death registration for a MARY ADELAIDE MANSELL father Robert HUNTER mother Catherine 1894#25777 however there is a 1921 marriage for her to Thomas Mansell.

Can't find a birth for Francis  anywhere either or a death yet.

You are wonderful.  I wonder if it's worth buying Mary's DC?   It may say if she actually married Martin?  Maybe they never married and Francis was registered as Hunter.  I really appreciate your help. Olwyn
