Ruabon baptism lookup
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 13:18 UTC (UK) »

 Smiley

I would appreciate a look up of the baptism of Ishmael Jones c 9th Dec 1796 MA Ruabon. His parents are John Jones and Elizabeth. Wondering if they recorded her maiden name.

Thanks very much.

Hi Sigrid

It has for 9th Dec 1796:

Samuel Jones s/o John Jones and Elizth. Abode - Morton Above

Not an Ishmael in sight!

I've hardly ever seen mothers maiden name given in those times.

It might be difficult to find the correct marriage for a John Jones to an Elizabeth  Undecided

Wow - how on earth did the transcriber get Ishmael from Samuel? It says Ishmael on the IGI. Now I am back to zilch again!!

I suppose the end is easily mis transcribed though.

HI Sigrid

The entry on the IGI  is a patron submission so I'd not take much notice of it if it doesn't match the parish records.

 :)Thanks very much Gadget.

Ishmael did exist but without his baptism that's it. He was the only lead I had. He was a witness to a marriage in 1825,  so I took the view that he would have had to be an adult to be a witness.

Oh well, and I thought I was doing ok. Grin Undecided

There is also a death reg for an Ishmael for Wrexham, may or not be the same person but the birth date is c1794.

Hi again sigrid

I checked up on him because I remembered something from the past  Grin and saw that I'd found him as a witness to that marriage:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,289465.msg1734357.html#msg1734357

He's not in the registers though.  He could have been baptised in a number of adjacent parishes and moved into the Ruabon area.

There's also this thread that may be of interest but slightly different d of B :

Thanks Gadget.

I have checked out the other thread, but the date is too late to be mine, unfortunately.

I think he would have been born c late 1700's, but he likes hiding!! I would have thought with such a name he would be quite easy to find; I was wrong!" Sad

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

Hi Sigrid

Do you know your Ishmael's occupation?   There is an Ishmael age 57 shoemaker in Wrexham 1851 born Hope Flintshire wife Jane age 52 born Wrexham.  This Ishmael is most like to be the one who died in 1876 Wrexham found by Gadget

Hi hiraeth,

sorry, I don't know anything more about Ishmael. Just his name as a witness on a marriage. Trying to link him to the bride as they shared the same surname. Perhaps if he is on census, his location may be a clue- that is if he is nearby to my bride!

regards
