1891 Easton Gray - Harriet WARD

I would be very grateful if someone can confirm the full address and all people living with Harriette Ward Age 39 Lodging House Keeper living at Easton Gray in 1891 - she was born Lacock.
I believe that she has her 4 children with her- Bessie, Harriette, nellie and Joseph and a servant Jane Vizor (aged 70) - but no sign of her husband Walter. The family were living together at Alkington, Berkeley, Glos till the end of 1886 at least but then they are in Easton Gray by 1891 but no sign of her husband walter. It would be really helpful if someone can just confirm all the people that are living with her and the precise address in Easton Gray in 1891. Many thanks - and huge apologies if I have missed this info on an earlier thread.

Walter Beaven Ward - born 1857 Nettleton Wilts. There are numerous threads in my quest to find him but all fresh eyes very welcome!

I have him with the family at Alkington, Berkeley, Gloucester from 1884 to 1886 but cannot find him by 1891 or at anytime afterwards.

the 1881 census is also indexed by address, so you should be able to find that info.

Curious twist just emerging and you seem quite an expert- looking closely, you will see that there is a Jane Vizor as a servant with all the family in 1881 but in 1891 it would appear that jane's mother is working for Harriet ward and the children  - by 1891 no sign of walter ward (husband) - and I am having difficulty tracing what happened to Jane Vizor after 1881 as well - unless you can find her!

Do you think Walter and Jane ran away?Huh?? Which could possibly explain why it would seem that jane's mother is helping harriet look after the children and the farm???

Look forward to your findings!

not really able to comment on that; I deal with hard facts revolving round names, ages etc ..... dont mind having a look for Jane, already tried a Walter .... but please dont ask me to guess at things  Tongue

I am so sorry- I really did not mean to offend! I have been looking at this puzzle from every angle I am going goggle eyed! I would really appreciate your help to see if you can trace Jane Vizor beyond 1881 (born c 1850 Easton Grey) - as this might give me a few pointers or allow me to discount some facts I alrady have.

I'm tempted to believe that both Jane Vizors are one and the same woman and the age recorded in 1881 is wrong. There's a Jane Vizor born Easton Grey around 1817 on all censuses except 1881 but no Jane Vizor born ca. 1850 on any other census than 1881!

Oh dear - this is getting confusing! In 1881 there are 2 Jane Vizors - one was born 1829 and living at Foxley - unmarried and a tailoress.
The other one was born 1851 Easton Grey and servant to the Ward family as discussed.

Somehow I need to trace these ladies through so any extracts from ear;lier Cenusus would be really helpful so that I can start to create a picture of all this!

The Foxley Jane never seems to leave Foxley until 1901, so I think you can forget about her. (She's a tailoress in Foxley in 1891)

Hello,
was just going to post the same and am inclined to agree with Tati re the servant Jane.
Her age does look to be 30 yrs in 1881 but  this is not supported in other censuses.
In 1871 she is with an elderly father and brother -the brother is in a Lunatic Asylum in 1881 and presumably her father is dead by then.

Did you ever follow up the birth records of the children re Walter's presence for their births?

Hi - many thanks. Yes, I now have the birth cer for walter and Harriet's youngest child Joseph - and this shows Walter Beaven ward on the birth cert in Sept 1886 still as a farmer - and they were living at Alkington, Berkeley, Bristol - so that has now narrowed the window in the hunt for Walter from late 1886 to 1891 by which time I cannot find him on the Census.
I was intrigued by the possible fact that Jane Vizor was with the family in both 1881 and 1891 and wondered if that was significant. In 1881, there are 2 Jane Vizors listed - one aged 52 living on her own as a tailoress at Foxley farm, wilts, and of course our Jane Vizor age 30 with the Ward family in Marshfield.
Could you possibly let me have the extract for Jane Vizor in 1871 please so that I can see her father and brother.
If it is possible that Jane Vizor in 1881 was somehow related to jane Vizor in 1891- I have tried to find the 1881 Jane Vizor after that date and can find no death or marriage - so am wondering if she ' disappeared' too......?

All help gratefully received.

Thank you - are you able to check back at 1851 and 1861 just to see if we can find a younger Jane Vizor as indicated in 1881?

I really appreciate your help in this one as I am deermined to complete this crazy puzzle!
