Day Family
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 18:48 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help?

My 2nd Great Grand Father was Jesse Day born about 1845 in Flockton

Here is his what i know about his family

Jesse Day 1845 Flockton
Ruth (Dont know maiden name) 1853 Lowmoor
Children:
Joseph 1876
Harry 1880 Earlsheaton
Mary Ann 1882 Crigglestone
George 1885 Criggleston
Willie 1887 Eastmoor
Abraham 1890 Eastmoor
Sarah Ellen 1893 Earlsheaton
Olga 1896 Earlsheaton

Mary Ann Day married Joseph Arthur Garforth (Mary Ann and Joseph are my 1st great grandparents)

I would also like to prove or disprove a family myth that the Day family was linked to the McLeod family and a link to Ian Mcleod MP

Can anyone help?

Hi,

A possible marriage for Jesse and Ruth,

James DAY    Dec Q 1874    Dewsbury    9b  1008
Ruth WILBY with same details.

This is from the GRO index, I wonder if it was a mistranscription and the cert. and/or parish record would show his name as Jesse?

This Ruth seems to fit well, here she is in 1871,

1871  RG10/4611  f.26  p.16  Ossett With Gawthorpe, Yorkshire
Street

Abraham WILBY   Head    W    55    Coal Miner    Yorkshire Mirfield
Ruth                   Daur    U    18    Rag Sorter          "      Low Moor
Abraham              Son          15    Coal Miner           "           "

Getting one of the children's birth certificates would confirm the mother's maiden name,

Mary Ann DAY    Sep Q 1881    Wakefield    9c  2

Crigglestone was in the Wakefield registration district,

Regards
Daisy

Thanks will have to have to investigate your information. Like I said I know very little about the Day family.

My dad when he was alive did say there were coal miners in the family but up to press never found any

Just had a sudden thought I think I found some evidence that showed Jesse as having the middle name of James!

Will have to dig out all my papers

Hi Daisypetal,

I was right his middle name was James according to the 1911 census. Thanks again Smiley
