This may interest some one at some point, I jotted it down from one of the early editions of the Barrhead News. Published Friday 10th September 1897.

In Memoriam

"In affectionate remembrance of Jane Wilson, beloved wife of Thomas McEwan, spirit merchant, Main Street, Barrhead, who died on 4th May 1896 at Barrhead; also their second son John, who on 25th December 1891 at Bands, East Africa, whilst on duty as chief engineer on board the s.s. "Demera", was killed during an attack by slave dealers."
