Whorlton PR's - does anyone have a copy?
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 21:54 UTC (UK) »

I originally asked for Masham pr's but Pels very cleverly deduced that Feeby in the Parish of Halton was actually Faceby in the parish of Whorlton and found the baptism of

Stephen Wrightson
15 April 1792
Whorlton Yorkshire
Father Charles Wrightson

there is no more on the IGI, does anyone have the PR's to see if there are any siblings of Stephen around or the marriage of his parents

thank you

Hi Madpants,

The Whorlton parish records are on the Hugh Wallis index to the IGI http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/

I just put in Wrightson on the christening 1784 to 1875 area and got

1. John Wrightson c. 22 Jun 1790 son of Francis
2. Susannah Wrightson c. 26 Nov 1803 dau of Francis
3. Stephen Wrightson c. 17 sep 1784 son of Francis
4. Stephen Wrightson c. 15 Apr 1792 son of Charles
5. Daniel Wrightson c. 27 Apr 1794 son of Francis
6. Francis Wrightson c. 11 Feb 1802 son of Francis
7. Ann Wrightson c. 24 Apr 1796 dau of Francis
8. Elizth Wrightson c. 2 Feb 1800 dau of Francis

There is also a marriage of a Stephen Wrightson to Rebeccah Peacock dated 12 Nov 1730

and a christening of Rebecah Wrightson 23 May 1738

There is a marriage for Stephen Wrightson in Hutton Rudby which is the next village along dated 3 May 1825 to Mary Pallister. There are further info in the christenings but no Charles. However if you look at Osmotherley there is a Charles christened in 1777.

I would recommend you take a look at Whorlton on genuki and start widening your search to the surrounding villages. http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/places?NRY,NZ485024,5,Whorlton

Happy Hunting

Hi Paula

Thank you for those  Grin Grin  I find hugh Wallis' site invaluable but as the IGI is incomplete I wondered if there was any other mention of Charles in Whorlton.  All the Wrightson researchers seem fixated with Stokesley as that is where Stephen married Jemima Moon (correct spelling Moughn) in 1813, but as there are so many Stephen Wrightsons in the area I was looking to see if I could find his parents and siblings.

Hi Madpants,

Sorry I must have joined the conversation a little late and misunderstood you. However I can say that I live very locally to Whorlton (Swainby) and have undertook a very detailed search of the Richardsons in both the parish registers and the IGI and they hadn't missed anyone, the only issue to be aware of was they often confused the day and the month. Over the winter I tend to go into North Yorkshire archives qute a bit more so if you dont get much luck with your search then email me in November and I will take a look, I will be checking Whorlton for one of my surnames anyway.

Kind Regards

Paula
