Hi

I'm wondering whether anyone would be kind enough to help me with a census look-up for a Mary Emily Wade - my Great grandmother. I'm really struggling to find her.

She was born c. 1878 in West Derby, Liverpool to a Charles and Henrietta Wade and I've found her in 1881 in Monks Coppenhall but I believe just 3 years later her mother died perhaps in childbirth, giving birth to George Wade who I've found in 1891 & 1901 living with the Taylor family in Haslington (Mary eventually marries one of the Taylor sons) but Mary Emily is nowhere to be found in 1891, neither is her father Charles b. 1851 in York.

I've searched for her under her first name and second name Emily (which interestingly changes to Emma on her marriage certificate) but with no success.  I'd love to find her as I'm planning to meet a great aunt who was her niece at Christmas.

Hiya Iain...should that be Haslingden ?..you say Haslington ??....I have trawled through freebmd but can`t find a Taylor to a Wade that fits Mary Emily  (Emma) Wade.
.plenty of Taylor / Wade marriages in Haslingden..
.could you possibly post any details of the marriage .....allan Wink

Thank you all for your help!

I just have not been able to find that record, despite trying perhaps the programme I was using just doesn't have the record. Its a great help and I'm slowly starting to piece this story together.

The mother Henrietta Wade died in 1884 (aged 28) perhaps due to complications with George's birth. George then lived with the Taylor family in Haslington, Crewe and obviously thanks to your information, Mary Emily with her father Charles in 1891.

According to Mary's marriage certificate to Henry Taylor [widow] (civil marriage 1909 Chester - a relative passed me this) Mary's father Charles, a railway worker, is deceased - I'm fairly certain I've found his death record in 1898 aged 47, and ordered his will I found from Cheshire Archives. George Wade, Mary Emily's brother is still with the Taylors in 1901.

However, there's no sign of Mary Emily in the 1901 Census that I've been able to find. Interestingly I haven't found her future husband in 1901 either, Henry Taylor (b.1879 Haslington) who marries an Elizabeth Bostock in 1902, only for her to later die young in 1904 - perhaps again in childbirth. Very sad circumstances befitting both families.
