Walley Street, Broughton, Salford? (Sorted thanks)
« on: Friday 16 October 09 14:11 UTC (UK) »

 Grin  Hello folks,

Some of my distant family are living at 52 Walley St, St James, Broughton in the 1901 census, i had a look further along and it is adjacent to Bangor St and Carter St, I cannot find these on a present day map, I suspect they were "redeveloped"? Can someone please give me idea as to where they were?
The census site won't let me scrol l  any further  Sad They later moved to Kent St which I found (caravan park there now).
Tulley St is still there which was the previous st, so mebbe renamed?

thanks, Ed. Wink

Hi,

On a modern map I would place it roughly where Wally Square is now.

For an old map see:
http://www.artus-fh.co.uk/Manchester%201922/Manchester%201922.html

Choose square 1b.  Scroll along the top until you see Broughton Park, go down and you will see Mandley Park and further down a small green Recreation Ground.  You should see then see Great Cheetham Street marked.  Just below the "C" in Cheetham is Wally Street.   Bangor and Carter Street are below the "Great" bit.

Hope this makes sense.
