Bell/ Lauder (or Lawder)
« on: Friday 16 October 09 22:10 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find further family for John Bell born 1793 in Canonbie and Jane Lauder born 1792 in either Scotland or England.  John had a brother named William who married Jane's sister Margaret.  William and Margaret had a son (thats all I have found so far but I assume there are more) named Andrew that moved to Canada in the early 1840s with his two cousins.  The cousins were the sons of John and Jane.  Christopher was born May 24 1826 in Canonbie and Adam was born in May 1822 also in Canonbie.  The three cousins settled in southern Ontario, Canada.  Its not much to go on but I am hoping something finds the names familiar.  Thanks.  Lori

That doesn't sound like the right family.  Bell is such a hard name to trace since it is so common.  I wish we could go back and change the names of our relatives to make them easier to find.  LOL

This is ALOT of great info for me.  Thanks so much.  Its especially interesting that there is a Fanny Armstrong MacKay listed as a daughter of Alexander Black and Margaret Bell since I have woman named Fanny Armstrong listed as the mother of Mary Armstrong whom married Christopher Bell.  Bell has been such a hard line for me to trace since it is so common.  Thanks for the help

Hi Lori
my transcription was taken from photos taken a while ago, but a gentleman called Howard has taken a great set of photos from Canonbie and put them all online. I don't think he minds people using the photos as long as you acknowledge him as the author. You have to search through them to find what you want, and some photos you can't make out many details, but the gravestone you want (I've just looked!) I think is no 182 in album 2:

hope this link works
