Completed - Newspaper Archives for Ipswich 1965
« on: Friday 16 October 09 23:08 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

I'm not sure how to go about finding an obituary for my Grandfather who died in Ipswich February 13, 1965.  Would anyone be able to help and let me know who holds old newspapers from this time and how I would go about getting this information?

Many thanks,

Jilly

I was going to say you could visit the Suffolk Records office as they have all the local newspapers on fiche but I them noticed your location so I guess that rules a visit out of the question Grin

You best bet would be to post his information on here and hope that one of the regulars notes it down and does a look up for you.

Hi Alan,  Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I'd readily go to the Suffolk Records office myself if I could  Sad

It would be great if someone could do a look up there.  I wonder if they have a look-up service there perhaps or if any of the old newspapers are kept in any libraries in the area.  Trouble is, I'm not positive if there was any obituary for my Grandfather at that time, but I was hoping that there is as he became estranged from the family as he walked out on my Grandmother and children and my grandmother had declared that he was 'dead', being rather distraught.   No one knew that he was alive until after his death which is sad and so it's a bit of a mystery his life after he left his family.

Thanks again,

Jilly
