Hi everyone I have been trying to find the right birth date for my g-grandmother Dorothy May BARNES since I was 13 years old.
She was married 1919 in London to a New Zealand WW1 soldier Robert Charles MILLIGAN. According to her marriage certificate her fathers name was Charles George BARNES-Commercial Traveler and she was born c1893 in London.
I have done a search for her birth certificate but there are quite a few Dorothy M BARNES' and Dorothy May BARNES' born in the London area as well as England itself.
Is there a way of finding some information about her without purchasing all the possible birth certificates and hoping to eventually getting the right one?
Thank you for reading my rambling request!!

Hi Belindy,
To narrow it down, I had a look at the 1901 census and the best match I come up with is:
1901 RG13/689 116 36 Beckenham, Kent Charles Barnes, head, 36, Salesman Wholesale Drapery, b. London Bermondsey Louisa, wife, 36, b. London Walworth Maude, dau, 10, b. Dulwich Surrey Dorothy, dau, 7, b. Kent Beckenham Glady, dau, 3, b. do.
Let's see if we can confirm that this girl was Dorothy May and the father Charles George

There is a Dorothy Mary BARNES born Births Sep 1894 Bromley 2a 427
That would fit as Dorothy May had 2 daughters: Dorothy Cecilia Esther born 1918 Mary Adelaide born 1920

I haven't been able to do a full search of the 1911 census as I don't have any credits but did a free search and didn't find any Dorothy May's or even a Dorothy M.
I'm a bit worried that her father may have been away with work the night of the census and he is the only parent I know at the moment.
Does that makes sense? I have a habit of knowing what I want to say but not knowing how to put it lol.

It sounds very promising!!
By c1917 Dorothy May was living at a boarding house at 19 Argyle Street, Pancras. Both her daughters were born at the house as well.
