Census 1881 and 1891

On the trail of Captain William Scott again.   I have him on the census of 1841, 1851 ,1861 and 1871 in Leith, north and south.   After that, nothing.   Tried English, Welsh census and did find him in 1901 in Barry South Wales, when he was visiting family.   His last address on 1871 census is Agnes Cottage, Leith North.   Can anyone assist please?  Where am I going wrong?!!!!
