Can you tell us more about Mary A. - your sources, etc.

This surname doesn't appear to exist in Hillington or indeed the whole of Norfolk.

She married john convert in islington in 1842 and died in hove Sussex. It says she was born in hillington on the censuses. Also seen in spelt raxter and racster.

Hi Tilly92

Methinks you have got 2 families confused.   First, you state she married John Convert but according to the records she married John Cobbett at Islington in 1842 and she also appears to be a plain Mary Racster not Mary Ann.

There was another John Cobbett (born Surrey) who was married to a Mary Ann but she  a Codling and they married  28/4/1831 All Souls, St. Marylebone and had 4 children - John bc.1834 Marylebone, William bp.19/11/1837 Dulwich, Mary Anne bp.23/2/1840 Dulwich and Emily Jane bp.12/2/1843.   (She is in Camberwell with the children in 1841 and was Mary Corbett ). According to 1851 Census when they were in St. Pancras Mary Anne was bc.1806 Hillington, Norfolk.

However, your John Cobbett and Mary are living at Brighthelmstone, Sussex in 1851:

John Cobbett    47    b. Westminster
Mary Cobbett    37    b. St. Pancras, Middlesex
John R. Cobbett 6     b. Brighton                          (John Racster bp'd Brighton on IGI)
Martin R. Cobbett 5   b. Brighton                         (Martin Richard bp'd Brighton on IGI)
Alfred Cobbett      3      ditto
Emily M. Cobbett  3 mos.  ditto

Ref. HO107 - 1646 - 628 - 5

In 1861 (ref. RG9 - 604 - 85 - 48) John and his children are in Hove, Sussex but Mary doesn't appear to be there.   A Mary A. Raxter - shown as a boarder - aged 65 b. Islington - widow - is living with them and I would guess this is her mother.   Can't find John's wife anywhere but no doubt her absence is why her mother is there.   I note that your Mary Cobbett died 1870 - this concurs with a circa birthdate of 1814.

Your Mary Raster (or whatever spelling) was therefore bc.1814 St. Pancras, London - I've a feeling these records are not on the IGI.
