Hi

I'm hoping someone can help with a few census lookups for me. This is what I know so far:

George Buckle b.1836 Dodworth, Barnsley married in 1857 Annie Marie Stringer b.1834. They had 4 children Elizabeth, William, Francis and Lily Ann. In  the 1881 census he is the landlord of the Travellers Rest Dodworth and also a butcher and farmer of 40 acres.

Annie Marie died in 1883 and George married either Sarah White or Martha Kenworthy in 1885 and had 1 or possibly 2 children. George died in 1890.

The 1891 census should show either a widow Sarah or Martha but I would be interested to see where she was living and were her stepchildren with her.  I think William took over the pub and she may have been in the butchers next door.

I have no information on Georges parents - can he be found in earlier census? I wondered if he could have inherited his businesses.

Annie Marie Stringer - I have her father as "George Stringer Silkstone?" in my notes but no explanation  Roll Eyes  There was a George Stringer, Blacksmith in Silkstone but I have no idea if he is her father

A lot to ask but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Daughter Lilly is shown as a visitor with the Barnsley family.  Looks like sister Elizabeth Annie married Joshua Barnsley

I think you will have to buy a copy of the 1885 marriage cert as there is no Martha or Sarah Buckle living in Dodworth

Hi Wozzle - will do in a sec

George Buckle must have married Sarah White.  The other male name on the page was Thomas Walker Wadsworth b 1852 Barnsley and a widower in 1891 living in Dodworth

There is a death for a Martha Wadsworth aged 32 in 1887 in Barnsley

CaroleW - I'm really grateful you found Elizabeth A. Lily is my husbands ggrandmother so we know her story. William died in 1892 and Francis in 1898. You have added another piece to the jigsaw.

Wozzle - That looks really promising. I will have to follow up with George and Annie Marias marriage cert.

I suppose Sarah/Martha could have moved or remarried. I couldn't find a death on the bmd under either name.

George, Arthur and John - they were a bit of a surprise as they are not on the 1881 census. I'll have to check the bmd.

I found a marriage in 1892 for a Sarah Buckle in Barnsley, might not be the right one, especially if she is not on the 1891 census.

As ever, more questions emerge the more answers you look for  Grin
