Southwell Baptist Church records?
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 04:12 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know where baptism records for Southwell Baptist church are or if they exist? I know that the Notts Archives has burials for 1840-1899 but I can't see that there are any baptisms. I am looking for baptisms in the mid nineteenth century.

I have been in touch with the church but the person who responded had no idea about this kind of thing, so I am crossing my fingers that someone on here might know something about them.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,

I would guess  the records are at the Nottingham Archive, email them they are a very helpful crew!

e-mail: archives@nottscc.gov.uk
tel: 0115 958 1634 archive enquiries

Hope that helps.

Why don't you post the name/s in which you're interested, and a rough guide to dates? You may well find that someone here has the resources you're looking for!

Thanks, I will try to email the Notts Archives to see if they know. I have looked at the website but hopefully they will be able to provide more information.

As Annie suggested....I am looking for:
- baptisms of the children of Henry & Sarah COOK, from abt 1850-1865
- baptisms of the children of James & Mary HALL, abt 1840-1865

Given the commonness of these names, and the fact that it's very expensive to buy certificates for several children for each couple, it would be nice to find the parish records if they exist. I do have the certificate for one of Henry and Sarah Cook's children (my ancestor), William who was born in 1850 in Westhorpe.

Thanks,
Alexander

Thanks Annie, I should have mentioned that I did have that baptism. Emma died in 1841 and was buried at the Minster, but there is no further mention of any of the children in the parish records I have seen.
