Can anyone help me to find Henry Morris ROGERS, born about 1823, in the 1841 Census?
He claimed to have been born in Tewkesbury, but as he spent most of his married life in Worcester, I think perhaps his roots lie there.
According to his marriage certificate (he married Harriet CANDY in 1848 in Gloucester City) his father's name was Samuel, so I am looking for a Samuel Rogers, wife unknown and a Henry M ROGERS probably aged about 20 in 1841.
There's a possibility that Samuel's wife was surnamed ROGERS, and I have noted a ROGERS-MORRIS marriage at Great Malvern in 1822 on IGI. But this of course is just speculation.
Any help with this family would be most welcome.
Kind regards
Philip Candy Australia

Hello Jim
Samuel was a Tin Plate Worker, and Henry was an Ironmonger.
Thanks for asking
Phil

I can't see them together, and this is the closest I can see to a Tinplate Worker.
1841. Barton Regis, Gloucestershire. Samuel Rogers 45. Boiler Maker. Elizabeth Rogers 35. Elizabeth Rogers 15. William Rogers 14. Charlotte Rogers 12. Sophia Rogers 7. Louisa Rogers 4. Samuel Rogers 11 Mo. All born in County.

That 1841 census would fit with this.
SAMUEL ROGERS. ELIZABETH MORRIS. Marriage, 18 AUG 1822. Great Malvern, Worcester.

1841. Broadway, Worcs. David Burrows 15. Henry Rogers 20. Occupation looks like Iron M. or W.
The household before on the image is occupied by a family of Morris's.

Thank you very much for all this. It looks very promising, including the fact that Henry's first daughter was named Elizabeth Harriet: presumably Elizabeth after his mother and Harriet after his wife's mother.
I wonder if Samuel can be seen in 1851, which would give his and Elizabeth's places of birth?
I think you may have solved the problem for me. Thanks so much.

This looks like him, but Elizabeth's age is out.
1851. Redfield, Bristol St George, Gloucestershire.
Samuel Rogers 58. Boiler maker. born, Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire. Elizabeth Rogers 60. born, Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire.
Its possible that Henry was born before they married, hence the Morris Rogers name.

Hello Jim
I actually found another candidate in Cramers Buildings in Bristol St George, which seems to fit the family names much better:
1851 census of St George, Bristol CRAMERS BUILDING ROGERS Samuel 55 Boiler maker Siston Elizabeth 47 Gloucestershire Usk Monmouthshire William 24 Boilermaker Gloucestershire St Georges Charlotte 22 Dressmaker Gloucestershire St Georges Sophia 17 Boot Binder Gloucestershire St Georges Louisa 12 Scholar Gloucestershire St Georges Samuel 10 Scholar Gloucestershire St Georges George 8 Scholar Gloucestershire St Georges
So for the time being, I will go with this as the solution.
I have two other questions, please. I think that Henry Morris ROGERS's daughter Clara Jane married Benjamin BLAKE in 1881, and his eldest daughter Elizabeth Harriet married James Edward ROBINSON in 1879.
Can you see them in 1891? I think they were living in Worcester; but would you mind seeing if you can find them in 1891 as I don't have access to the Census returns for 1891?
Kind regards and thanks
Phil
