I came from over the sea ...

Elizabeth CRIDLAND born abt 1771
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 11:24 UTC (UK) »

Dear All,

I've spent ages trying to find the birth of Elizabeth Cridland who married John Bennett in Old Cleeve in Oct 1792. Can anyone help me with this, please?
So far I've searched IGI and found entries entered by members of the LDS church, but I cannot find any ACTUAL record. I can't find her in the Ancestry lists either. I've also used the lists on West Somerset Parish Register Transcriptions, and can find plenty of Cridlands in Old Cleeve, but not my Elizabeth.
Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Hello Ozgen,

There is a baptism on Freereg of a Betty CRIDLAND at Old Cleeve in 10/02/1776, daughter of Robert and Mary CRIDLAND.

That would have made her 16 in 1792. It is possible she is the person you are seeking.

Siblings were William, 1771, Joan, 1773, and Thomas , 1786.

Marriage in Old Cleeve 12/01/1771, Robert CRIDLAND to Mary BURGE.

Thanks, Jo,

I've found Betty too; I thought I had it sorted until I discovered that she died as an infant in 1777. That sent me 'back to the drawing board' again.

Thanks for your efforts,

Ozjen,

This link is for a website full of parish transcriptions for Old Cleeve and many surrounding parishes.  A Janet Cridland has done many of the transcriptions.  Could your Elizabeth Cridland  have been born in a neighbouring parish?
