Marriage of George STRANGE to Ann STEVENS
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 12:04 UTC (UK) »

I cannot find this marriage in the GRO indexes and have searched on the IGI and Free REG with no success.

Edward STRANGE was born in Middlesex between 1817 & 1821.   Ann STEVENS was born in Reading c 1823.   I haven't been able to identify either of them in the 1841 census, so I don't know if they had married by then, but it can't have been much earlier given Ann's age.

What I do know from the baptisms of some of their children on the IGI is that they were living in Guildford from 1842 to 1857.    Consequently I am hoping that they may have married there.

The first child that I know of was baptised at St. Nicholas in Guildford.   Other churches used were Holy Trinity and Stoke Next Guildford.

Edward STRANGE was a Fishmonger at least from 1851 to 1857 and between those dates the family was living in Chertsey Street.

Many thanks,

Diana

I found these 2 people on the same page of the marriage index - it's a bit late, and Edwin instead of Edward, but maybe worth checking with the local office to find whether they married each other, for starters?

Hi Rambler and Galium

It does sound rather promising even if it is later than expected.   I will have to dig around a bit more.   If I could find Ann's baptism in Reading with a father called James that might help clinch it.

Thank you both so much for your help.
