I am researching the Howsego/Housego family of Westbourne, Sussex.
I have got back to John Howsego and his wife Anne (nee Horner)who lived in Westbourne from 1798. John's Parish of origin on his marriage was Stoughton, Sussex but that is all I can find out. Is anyone else researching this rather unusual surname, please?

Welcome to Rootschat 
I can see your problem as the IGI only shows the Howsegos iin Westbourne. The Stoughton PR's seem to be well extracted onto the IGI so although John was of Stoughton when he married he must have been baptised elsewhere. It would be worth looking just across the county boundary in Hampshire. Where did the marriage take place?

They married at Warblington, Hampshire, on 16th February 1798. Ann is listed as "of this Parish", but that could be through occupancy, as I can't find a baptism record for her there.(at that time Warblington was a big military depot, so she could have gone there to work) Anne died at Brighton in 1844 with the surname spelt as Houzego. I am given to believe that John died in 1827, although I have not actually seen the record.

You probably saw this...I see they were married as Housegow
There's a submission for probable son Austin Houzego (chr. Astin Tower Howsego) to Jane Packer 1842 ( altho BMD Brighten dist entry says Parker) daughter Jane born as Howzego
The name Tower could be a clue, but didn't find a connection so far...
Edward married as HOUZEGO to Eliza Ariss - July 26 1836, Saint Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex
This person ( down Wm's line) believes the name is Spanish?

Astin Tower Howsego, baptized at Westbourne on 25th May 1817, son of John & Ann
Howsego. When he married Jane Packer at St. Nicholas, Brighton, on 2nd January 1842, he was registered as Austin Houzego. The Howsego/Housego and all its variations are believed to be from the Norfolk/Suffolk areas and originated in North Friesland(Holland) hundreds of years ago.
I have also wondered about the surname Ariss for the Eliza who married Edward Houzego( another son of John & Ann of Westbourne) As there is a George Ares Houzego at Brighton.
