The war baby in 1959, Tuakau, New Zealand.

Catherine MOONEY married Terence McMAHON (B c 1767), date unknown, probably before 1797. They had 3 children (Francis, Elizabeth, John). She and he (as a member of the NSW Corps) moved to Australia in 1800 on a ship transporting convicts. Her records state she was born in County Wicklow and she called her cottage in Sydney, Wicklow Cottage. Terence was drowned in 1801 and she then married Patrick HUMPHRY (-s, ies, etc) a convict whom she was said to have known in Ireland. He was said to be from Cty Dublin so may be they were on the border! They had 6 children. She died in 1857, aged 101. Her parents, from her death certificate were said to be John MOONEY and Catherine BYRNE. I was hoping someone may have some more information on the Mooney and Byrne connection. I know they are common names particularly the latter. A point in a good and/or right direction would be grand! PS HUMPHRY was said to have been baptised at the Parish of St Pauls, Dublin, 4 May 1767 - RC. Thank you. Regards Bryan Christchurch New Zealand

Catherine's father John MOONEY was said to be a shoemaker. The 1846 Slater's Commercial Directory gives a John Mooney shoemaker in Abbey Hill, Wicklow. In the hope that this is a descendant of my John: Could anyone advise what RC parish this would be under or townland/civil parish if not Wicklow? I've ploughed through a number of map sites without luck. Thanks Bryan

Wicklow town is split between three civil parishes Rathnew, Drumkay and Kilpoole - see the townland database at www.seanruad.com. According to the Irish Times website all three civil parishes are in the RC parish of Wicklow, details of which are listed in microfilm Pos. 6482 in the National Library.

I presume that Abbey Hill was (or is) located near to the present Abbey St at the northern end of the town.

Thanks Shane. That helps me pinpoint it better. Yes I am assuming St and Hill are the same. Bryan
