JAMES GREEN 1828 Bedford Leigh, please?
« on: Monday 19 October 09 03:27 UTC (UK) »

Hello from New Zealand,

My first visit to the Lancashire board.

I am hoping to confirm the birth of my GGGGGrandfather. Much later Census information for St Oswalds Chesire suggests his birth year as 1828, Bedford Leigh.

His father is also James Green, "Clockmaker".  Mother and siblings unknown as yet.

The  IGI  has several entries for James Green; fathers are also all James Green and all married to Mary's!

I am fairly new to PRE 1837 research.

I am hoping someone may have access to the records which may include an occupation for the father?

I cannot think of any other way to confirm his parentage and birth?

Any advice or tips will be gratefully accepted.

Haere Mai from New Zealand, Sue McIntosh.

Hiya Sue....have a look at this site on Lancashire online Parish records...it may not have what you want but you may just get another link or info from it....
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Leigh/stthomas/index.html   and good luck....allan
ADDED....just had a quick look and St Thomas wasn`t built until 1839 ...so it looks like Thomas would have been babtised in St Mary the Virgin or there are 5 other churches that pre date 1828 ( james greens year of birth)....allan

Yes, I have James Green Junior's marriage certificate for 1852, the 26th January.  He does not specify his age, just "of full age". Thank you for reading.

 Smiley
Thank you for reading!

James was living in the St Oswald area of Chester at the time of his marriage 1877.

He married at the Parish church of Birkenhead in the county of Chester. This is how I gained his father's name and occupation.

His census details around this time  give his birth area as Bedford, Leigh or Leigh Lancashire.

I hope I am doing all the right things to find  his birth details and therefore parentage.

Your help is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi,

If you have access to the 1851 census take a look at  a James Green aged 50, Clockmaker and Publican Born Lancs Astley living at St. Oswald Chester  Grin
some children were born Bedford Lancashire.  My money is on this chap although it does look like he is on his second wife, unless she has knocked a few years of her age.

HO107/2172 folio 131 page 4

If you need it transcribing let me know.  By the way your James is only a few houses away on page 5.

Regards,
Mo

Hi,

I am fairly sure that this is the same family in the 1841 census living in Bedford Lancashire but James Snr is not there:

HO107/513/6 folio 11 page 15.
Chappell Lane, Bedford, Leigh, Lancashire
Ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 0 or 5.
All born in County

Mary Green, 20, Furniture Dealer
JAMES, 13, Cotton Factory
Elizabeth, 7,
Margeret?, 4
Robert, 2
Easter, 1
Easter Green, 60.

 Grin

Thank you so much everyone for all your help!!!

Awesome result! I have a wealth of recommended sites and tips.

Thanks for finding James Green senior on the 1851 census... I have now ordered a copy of his 2nd marriage cert, hopefully his father will be revealed - what luck!

Also the children's names and birth years  here all tie in with the 1841 census, in Bedford.

Brilliant results, thanks for being so friendly and informative....
