I have found a possible marriage for my 2x great grandparents in the Ancestry indexes. It took place in Q2 1843 and was registered in Dorchester district. The groom was Patrick COUGHLIN, but who was the bride? I would very much like it to be Jane MUZZELL and also for Patrick to be a soldier. Please can anyone check this out for me?

The FreeBMD site shows Jane MUZZELL as a possible wife for Patrick COUGHLIN. The other possibilities are Mary HELLARD and Marianne WEBBER.
I've been buying quite a lot of certificates recently and the cost adds up. I was hoping there might be an index to marriages in Dorset that would help settle the matter before I get yet another one.

Apologies if this way off the mark, but is this your Jane Coughlin in 1881?

Jane Coughlin's birthplace is hard to read - it has been transcribed as 'Surrey, Brighton Saffron' , but there doesn't seem to be any such place. The middle word is almost certainly Brighton.
If it is your Jane there are two possible records on the IGI:
Jane MUZZEL 1819 Newtimber, Sussex (not far from Brighton)
Jane MUZZALL 1820 Brighton, Sussex

It might well be! Patrick & Jane's daughter Sarah was born in Brighton in 1857, so that is a very promising lead and I will look into it.

I ordered the marriage certificate and it came in the post today. It was the right marriage. They married in the parish of Fordington on 22nd June 1843.
Jane's father was a gardener called James MUZZELL, so that is making the Newtimber baptism look hopeful. Sadly I still can't find Jane or her father in 1841 and I now know that Patrick was in India with the army then. In 1851 he began collecting his pension in Dublin, so that explains why I can't find him or Jane in that census.
