Enefers again.
« on: Monday 19 October 09 13:25 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

Another Enefer query:

Have found a marriage for Mary Ann Bossom Enefer to Peter Lindfield 25th October 1809.

Notice the surname Bossum would appear to be local to Sussex - trying to tie in where it would have come from for Mary Ann.

Considered first retention by married mother of own name, ergo becoming like a double barrelled name. Then thought of illegitamate birth to a Bossum girl  - who went on to marry an Enefer, but can find no record.  Also considered a Mary Ann  Bossum, married to an Enefer, being widowed, marriage to Lindfield being a 2nd marriage, but again can find no corresponding records.

Can anyone suggest anything I've missed.  Would it be possible for anyone to check this through parish records for me please?

Hi Corndolly

Just had a look in the Sussex Marriage Index for Bossom marriages - there are 90 of them and all but about 6 are in Hastings - but even them are near Hastings, i.e Rye
Had a look for all Enever marriages - there are only 6 of which 5 are in Hastings.
Looks like it is telling us where in the county we wil find the answers you are looking for - i.e Hastings.

Hi again

Did spot this though

Sussex Marriage Index:
Location: Ninfield, East Sussex,  Date: 25 Oct 1809:
Groom: Peter LINFIELD, of this parish
Bride: Mary Ann BESSON, of this parish by licence.

Sorry but no copy of that licence

A very big thanks Chris for both sets of answers.

Sorry to be such a pain over these Enefers.

Its just that a long time ago before I actually started going back through the family, someone kindly sent me details of some of their research, which at the time I didn't really follow.  Now some of their info. is throwing up queries against my own and ufortunately I am nowhere near Sussex to be able to check anything personally..

The IGI is not always the easiest to follow. They list a birth entry 1811 for Samuel Enefer [no parents named] that I have attributed to Samuel /Sarah [b.1787].  They list a marriage entry for a Samuel/Sarah about 1835 where they put a birth date of abt.1813 [presumably for Sarah], which obviously ties in with Sam.b.1811.   From there on I cannot find any reference  on IGI or census

The  research I was sent does not include the above.

It does however give me a Mary Ann Enefer b.1812 Hastings St Clement attributed to Samuel/Sarah [b.1787], with a marriage to James Crowder 18th July 1836, St Mary in the Castle, Hastings.  I cannot find  a birth/marriage/death record for Mary Ann or James on the IGI .  Neither can I find any reference to them through the census records.

As most of Samuel/Sarah [b.1787] registrations seem to be Hastings All Saints, I think it more likely for Mary Ann to be the daughter of John Enefer/Mary Sinnock, who appeared to live in the St Clements area, but again can find no references.

If you can throw any light on either of these would be extremely grateful.
