Marriage(s) West Ham Holy Trinity Barking Rd COMPLETE
« on: Monday 19 October 09 17:12 UTC (UK) »

Annie Elizabeth Allum born 1874.  Only there are two: June quarter 1897 and September quarter 1923.  Her mother is Mary Ann Allum, father George.

Thanks in anticipation.

sorry?

2 possible marriages?

Who do they marry? Can you find the 1897 couple on the 1901 census and thus rule that one in or out as 'your' Annie by the age and place of birth?

Thanks lizdb

Nothing on the 1891 Census  neither for her mother's address nor brother's.  A glance of the free service of well-know Census provider likewise.

I have also checked deaths on freebdm

Twice because she might have lost her first husband and so she remarries.

Any other suggestion welcome.

The 1897 has the following names
Annie Elizabeth Allum
Florence M A Francis
JAmes Henry Gardener
Walter White

I think Floence marries Walter as it looks like them at RG13 1596 51 47

So therefore Annie probably marries James Gardener.
There are a couple of James Gardeners with wife called Annie on 1901, but not in West Ham.
Where was your Annie born?

IF this is her and James died and she remarried it is mopre likely that she would have remarried under name of Annie Gardener.
I see from freeBMD that their are several Annie Elizabeth Allum's around, so you may find that neither of these marriages are yours.

Hi lizdb

"There are a couple of James Gardeners with wife called Annie on 1901, but not in West Ham. Where was your Annie born?"

The 1881 Census tells me Plaistow.  Address 29 Star St so close to Holy Trinity.

Once married they then moved away from Canning Town?  If there is just a couple, then I can use Census info on the surname interest forums.

Using BDM I can find no other marriage of Annie Allum until 1897 and of course a marriage search for James Gardener gives me the same Q. and Pg number as Annie's marriage.  Still using BDM, birth is Anne Elizabeth Mar. Q 1874.

Thank you!

Sorry, I am still not following your process at all!

Are you saying that you knew that your Annie married a James Gardener all along? If so, why not get the marriage cert and check out if her father ties up with what you know about him, also addresses etc.

"Are you saying that you knew that your Annie married a James Gardener all along?"

No.  Huh Thanks to you only now I know that.  I'm mystified as to how you arrived at that.  Perhaps I should refrain from family history when I am on medication . Lips Sealed

When you write:

"There are a couple of James Gardeners with wife called Annie on 1901, but not in West Ham."

It follows:

"Once married they then moved away from Canning Town?"

So any help with a Census entry from the two you kindly found, will be helpful.

I appreciate your help.

OK - think I am with it now!

The thing is, unless we can find 'your' Annie with husband James Gardener on 1901 we cant prove that she did marry James Gardener at all (without buying the cert).
And although there might be James Gardeners with wife Ann(ie), the wife was not born in that West Ham area (I think from  memroy they were born Surrey & Somerset, but cant be sure)
I think you are going to have to buy the marriage cert to progress this any further.
That will solve two things - first is it the right Annie Allum (see if  fathers name and occupation ties up with what known, and address)
Secondly you will see for sure who she marries.

Hope you get it sorted

Thank you for explaining that and offering me a strategy.
I'll flag it up for moving.
