anyone going to record office at matlock
« on: Monday 19 October 09 22:51 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone please do a look up for a baptism for any Wilsons baptised at Chapel En Le Frith circa 1777,
I am going round and round in cirlces but what I need is a baptism for John Wilson. the 1851 census for  Jacob Hares Banwell, Somerset shows a John Wilson living with them, he says he was born Chapel En Le frith and in 1851 he was a paermaker.   I know there was a peper mill  at Chapel.. So I am looking at any body who worked at the paper mill circa 1777.

Hope someone can help.

Hi
I think the 1851 says that John Wilson was a pauper so I think the papermill is a red herring.

Hi Gardener
His first son was born in Hurst Batch Wookey Somerset 1813 but died a few weeks later but baptism shows him to be  a papermaker.
also shown to be a papermaker on the the baptisms of all his children. 1841 census for Rickford Somerset  also show him to be a papermaker.
By 1851 the papermill at Banwell Somerset had closed. In 1849 he was given parish relief.
I think for most of his life he was a papermaker and so was his sons however I am assuming that he came from papermaking stock.
