Looking for Patrick COUGHLIN/CAUGHLIN
« on: Tuesday 20 October 09 09:15 UTC (UK) »

Patrick enlisted in the 4th Light Dragoons on 22nd November 1826 at Dublin.   He was born at Clonmore c 1806 - actually he said it was in Wicklow but I can't find it there, so I hope this is the right board!

Patrick left the army in 1851 and I've ordered what I hope is his 1843 marriage certificate today.   If it's right then his wife's name was Jane and I will also get his father's name.

He was collecting his army pension in Dublin from 1851 to 1855 and I think he had a daughter called Jane M. COUGHLIN who was born in Ireland c 1854. The family was in England from 1856 to 1860 and then from 1860 to 1865 Patrick was again collecting his pension in Ireland (1860  Dublin; 1861 Clonmel; 1862 Cork 1 & Carlow; 1863 to 1865 Dublin 1).

Did he go home to Clonmore for any of this time?   Were any children born there?

Really, any information on him would be extremely welcome.

Many thanks indeed.

Diana

Hi AMK

I'm confused enough just with Co. Wicklow and Co. Carlow!   I was wondering if he was born in Co. Wicklow but Clonmore was the largest town or village nearby.   When I put much the same query on the Co. Wicklow boards it got locked for duplication, so I don't think I can try a third county.

Thanks for the suggestion all the same.

Here's a link to your Wicklow post and as you can see it directs people to this Carlow thread to avoid needless duplication by asking any further details to be posted here.
