Thanks.

You can't assume a place of birth from place of residence at time of marriage, nor are men necessarily aged 25 when they marry.

Incidentally, the John TALBOT who married in 1782 was a widower, first marriage perhaps in 1766.  It's even possible he was the John TOLBOT buried at Swinderby 1 Aug 1817 aged 87.

I appreciate your answer but that was all the information I had to go on. How do you know he was a widower?

Bearing in mind that Swinderby is on the border with Notts - map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=484080&Y=365520&A=Y&Z=126
perhaps the JT who died in 1817 was born a few miles over the border - Marnham is only about 5 miles to the NW.

Yes I had found the christening for Feb 11 1730 on IGI for Marnham, but for the life of me cant find your ref to the death in 1817 in Swinderby.
Also Robert Talbot on the Freereg marriage index for 1777 in Swinderby doesnt cross check with the possible John T of Marnham with parents possibly William and Mary T

Burial of John in National Burial Index.

As is Robert - 17 Aug 1839 (83) and his son Robert 22 June 1846 (58) both at Swinderby.

There were also several TALBOT marriages in North Scarle (see map) around 1800.

Sorry, can't link Robert to John.Sad  .......... Hang on ..... Robert COLBERT 1756 Swinderby (of John and Ann).  My BIVRI disks have this baptism as TOLBERT!.... so now need another marriage for John!

Thanks for your help. How found reference to Robert T's[ died 1839] will in Lincs archives and also an apprenticeship indenture dated 1742 for Mary Danby as a  housewifery apprentice?! both for Swinderby.
Also an entry for 1749 for a Robert Talbott 'Admon'?
Will check out the Scarle marriages. Talbot line on west bank of Trent at Normanton/Sutton seems better documented?

Perhaps a bit young to have married in 1782 Wink

Did they just have Richard in 1783, never to be seen again or are they known to have surfaced somewhere else?

I'm afraid National Burial Index for Swinderby doesn't start till 1813.

There's a burial for a Mary TALBOT at Swinderby 8 Dec 1826 (69).

Am confusing myself now as Talbots/Tolbotts/Talbotts now appearing across the area including Torksey now.
Think my original John and second wife Mary somehow related to the Robert Talbots of Swinderby. I guess a visit to the county archives in Lincoln is the next plan of action.
Can't find further siblings for the John/Hannah 1766 marriage in Swinderby or of Robert born 1756 buried Swinderby 1839.
Thanks for your help!
