Would anyone going to the Archives in Edinburgh be so kind as to do a lookup in the Kirk session minutes for me please?
I am trying to find out a little more about the family of an ancestor born 8 Oct 1822 in St Andrews Lhanbryde, Moray. John Laing was born to Isobel Laing, his father was alleged to be physician Henry Palmer of Thistle Street, Edinburgh. Isobel's father, John Laing, was sponser to the child - he was a forrester at Bareflathills, Moray.
I have found Isobel with her son on the 1841 census in Speymouth, Moray, on it it states that she was born 1807, Scotland. I have found son John on subsequent censuses. I have been unable to advance my research on Isobel as I do not know any more information about her, where exactly she was born and whom her parents and siblings were. I was hoping some information may exist in the kirksessions for the area in relation to John's illegitimate birth which may help.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Thanks for getting back to me. I have seen the entry on Libindx-I sent them some of the information on John, his wife and children. I too wondered if the Henry Williams Palmer you mentioned could be John's Father and contacted someone who had been researching him as part of their family tree, he seemed to think it unlikely that Henry was John's Father-I am not so sure!
Like I mentioned previously, I have no idea where John's mother Isobel originated, all I know is that she originated in Scotland and that her Father was John Laing, and at the time of John juniors christening in 1822, Isobels Father was obviously living in Moray too, but whether he originated there, who his wife and other children were etc, I really don't know.
I haven't been able to find any burial / MI records for the family on the Moray burial site, I suspect as they had claimed poor relief prior to their deaths that I probably will not find any marked gravestones.
Many thanks
