1901 Census look up please.
« on: Tuesday 20 October 09 14:06 UTC (UK) »

Hi I am stuck.
on the 1911 census my Grandad Harry Windle born 1880 is living with his wife Edith and 3 sons
Also at the same address is widowed mother Eliza and unmarried brother Frank. The trouble is I cannot find Eliza or Frank any where else as frank was 7 years younger than Harry he should be on the 1901 census along with Harry so is there anyone who can help please.
Harry was born and still lived in Sheffield.

1901 census
Eliza Windle born 1847 Widow
Harry Windle born 1880
Frank Windle born 1888
Living at 23 School Street

When you look at the typed 1901 census it says wife is Eliza when you look at the actual census it is his mother.

Thanks Carolanne,
I know he married my Grandmother in 1904 strange thing is I have a photo with my Dad Aunt and Grandad on and what I always thought was my Great Grandad obviously not as he would not be alive when my Dad was born in 1913!  He must have died some time between 1888 and 1901.

In the 1891 census head of the family is Thomas Windle born 1843 Chapel Yorkshire. Just looked in 1881 and its Chapeltown.
Have found a death Thomas Windle age 59 in 1895 Sheffield july 1/4 9c 357
Just realised the dates don't tally.
The only other death I can see for Thomas Windle 1848 - 1895 Greenwich

Thanks again,
I could find a Thomas and Eisa in the 1881 census but not Eliza and was not sure if it was the right one but he was an iron moulder as was my Grandad so thought it might be right. I think the death must be the Greenwich one.

I have just found a death registered in Wortley 1901  think that could be the one as that is not far from home.

Yes that sounds better he could have died just before the census was taken

Found yet another one.  St Johns Ambulance brigade went to South Africa to help out in the war and a Thomas Windle died of decease in1900. I have never known so many Thomas and Elizabeths since I started trying to find my ancestors.   Grin   My Mothers family has lots of them .  At least today's generation stand a better chance of finding us with all our fancy names Grin

Yes true, but then we have a lot that don't marry I just hope that all the work I've done for my family tree isn't in vain.
