Hi
I have tried to trace the male line of Rees in LLanguicke. Daniel Rees B 1795 in Bettws, wife Margaret b LLanguicke 1811. Their son is Daniel, b abt 1841 in Brichfa, wife Ann b 1838 in Cayo. Their son is William b 1865, wife Margaret b Llandilo abt 1865.
I guess that some of this may well be inaccurate but new to this and my best attempt. Any info to develop this would help.
I may have posted this on the incorrect board, so apologies Sue

What sort of info are you looking for? Do you have birth and marriage certificates to confirm your findings? Have you followed them through all the census years?
Think the place of birth that Daniel gives is Brechfa http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/wal/CMN/Brechfa/
Which doesn't seem to tie in with Daniel, son of Daniel & Margaret who is born in county, Glamorgan, in 1841 and born Llanguicke according to the 1851. The IGI batch C056991 for Llangiwg has baptisms for some of the children of Daniel & Margaret Thomas bp 26/5/1834 Mary bp 5/2/1830 Rachel bp 24/11/1832 Magdalene bp 30/10/1842

Hi
Thnx for this. I have tried to follow through the census but not sure how well I have done? I set up a tree on Ancestry, would you be able to see that? I do not have the certificates as yet. Have only recently started out on this and am getting addicted. Seems some of the family myths are just that but all really interesting and more Welsh roots that I had thought.
Cheers Sue

certificates are a must especially with common Welsh names. There's at least one more Daniel Rees in the same parish and of much the same age as 'your' Daniel. Without a marriage certificate to confirm the names and occupations of the the fathers of the couple, how can you know you're following the right family? Without a birth certificate for one of the children, you can't be sure of the correct marriage and you won't be able to find the details for the mother. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,381764.0.html all sorts of help in this topic. You need to work back from what you know, documenting each generation with at least one birth cert and the marriage cert for the parents or you could be wasting time and effort following entirely the wrong family.

Hi
I actually know very little that is concrete and guess I will need to be more detailed in the approach to ensure I am not following the wrong family. The name is common so that makes it more difficult. On my Mother's side the surname is Nawell and there are a few Josephs born about the same time so that is a bit tricky as well. I will access the link you have kindly provided and work out the best way to access the certificates Many thnx Sue

there are only 2 ways of getting certificates. Either applying to the GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ for which you need to know the GRO ref which can be found on FreeBmd or pay per view/subscription sites. The refs consist of a quarter, registration district, volume and page number e.g. birth ref Daniel Rees dec qtr 1883 Pontardawe vol 11a pg 631
The registration district for Llangiwg was Neath until October 1875, when it became Pontardawe. Pontardawe became West Glamorgan at the start of 1935.
The other way is to order from the office which now holds the registers. So for this area The Register Office 119 London Road, Neath SA11 1HL tel. 01639 760021
The price of a cert is usually £7 either way, although some local offices charge more and some won't supply certs at all. If you're applying to a local office, it helps to include a self-addressed envelope. The GRO refs mean nothing to them, and they will need as much detail as possible to identify the correct family.
Don't be tempted by sites that offer to get the certs for you. They charge rather more!

I wouldn't go that far, but I have an interest in wildlife. I've seen nesting ospreys from a distance at Loch of the Lowes.

Hi
Wow, I saw a peregrine falcon a while ago and was amazed how small it was. Love owls and sometimes have one in the tree opposite my house. Should I admit to be a Dragons supporter at this point?? Sue
