Christian Malford lookup William HAINES b.1772

Hi,

Would anyone be able to check the Christian Malford records for what it says for the baptism of William HAINES bpt.1 mar 1772? I have been told that it says his mother is Sarah HAINES aLs TURK. Does this mean that her maiden name is TURK and the father's name is HAINES? Is there any other information mentioned? Also, are there any siblings baptised?

Hi Donna

The parish record reads

William baseborn son of Sarah Turk als Haines.

So he was illegitimate and presumably naughty Sarah Turk was living with Mr Haines as his wife.  Perhaps they married later.  I THINK I noticed that the Hilperton marriages are indexed but I didn't check them.  Neither did I check for siblings.

Just had another thought - there's no doubt that William was illegitimate (baseborn) but it's possible that Sarah was too, and that she was born TURK but her mother lived with a Mr HAINES, or married him after Sarah's birth, or married twice, once to a Mr Turk and then to a Mr Haines.

Life would be so boring if everything was straightforward!
