I am searching for death of John Tweedie (poss middle name Baxter) born abt 1813, between 1891 and 1901 in Muirkirk death Jane Tweedie his wife, born abt 1824, maiden name Howells, around 1863 Muirkirk marriage of John and Jane sometime between 1851 and 1861 census. I wonder if this is her 2nd marriage. 1861 Census has her as English, but I can find no trace in english BMD
Any help/info appreciated (back to this after a 3 year gap working on the wife's cornish side)
Three years ago on thsi forum, other thread I got as far as
1851 – census, his age, marital status, job? - SINGLE 1861 – census – does it state which English county she is from? NO - just England 1851 – 61 – when and where did John and Jane marry, what is her maiden name, on MC are his parents dead? - NOT FOUND 1863 – is the Jane that dies in Muirkirk the wife of John?, any maiden name or age recorded? - Parents WIlliam Howells and Mary Collins, born abt 1824

This is a possible entry for the 1851 census entry your referred to:
Elisabeth Muir 47, head, b. Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire John Tweedie 36, unmarried tailor, b. Dumfries
Address: Village, Muirkirk
The additional info (re marital status) comes from FreeCen. No relationship within the household between John and Elizabeth is showing on the entry.

Yes, Monica, that is the thread. I have traced John Tweedie through all of the censuses from 1841 to 1891, when he disappears. In 1841 He is single In 1851 He is single (as you point out) In 1861 He is married to Jane, his first wife, but is it her 2nd marriage? When did he marry, were his parents dead at the time of the marriage? Abt 1963 Jane dies. In 1864 MArries Agnes in Muirkirk, his parents are listed as deceased. In 1871 John and his 2nd wife, Agnes, have 2 children in Muirkirk In 1881 John and his 2nd wife, Agnes, have 2 children in Muirkirk In 1891 John and Agnes are in Muirkirk, their children are in Blackburn In 1901 Agnes is a widow, in Blackburn, living with one of the children I can find nothing in english BMD for death of John so I suspect he died in Muirkirk and then Agnes went to live with her children.

Thanks Ev, I have a hand written extract, written in late 1800's (dont have it to hand) it is a certified extract of the baptism of John and his twin. The hand writing suggests Baxter, and his Twin Euan. Howeve I have other extract which suggests John Barker and Evan.

Looks like you have looked at the death entry in 1863 in Muirkirk for Jane Howells/Tweedie's death as you now have her parents' details. Her age on the cert shows as 44 indicating perhaps a birth closer to 1819. It always hard if you are working from only one census to rely on ages showing there. Her birth was before the start of official registration in England in late 1837, so you would have to check Parish entries for her details, which is impossible at this stage without knowing where in England she was from.
It is also likely, given you have not been able to find a marriage for John Tweedie and Jane Howells, that they may have married before the start of official registration in Scotland, in 1855. Their marriage may not show on the Old Parish Registers, which are for the established Church of Scotland, ie. Presbyterian.

The only possible entry I can see on IGI for Jane Howells' birth/christening:
JANE HOWELL Christening: 13 SEP 1818 Chetwynd, Shropshire Parents: WILLIAM HOWELL and MARY
Can't find a Parish marriage for William and Mary (Collins) to even guess as to whether we may be in the right area for Jane's birth.
Allan, what occupation showed for father William Howell on daughter Jane's death entry?

Thanks Monica, I had forgotten Scottish records didnt start until 1855. John and Agnes (I have cert) married in CofS in Muirkirk, so previous marriage 'probably' CofS. Given Jane's age - I wondered if she may have been married previously, in which case if this is a second marriage she would not have married under the surname 'Howells' On 1861 they have a Visitor 'Elizabeth Garnel', married, English - perhaps her sister - but relationship is 'visitor' not sister in law. No marriages in English BMD for 'Garnel' in period 1853-1861, so either she married in Scotland or 'Garnel' is not accurate
