Health board in 1832? Ledhook or Lerwick or similar?
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 11:40 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
Josiah Allsop died 6.8.1832. He was a doctor & died very suddenly it would seem possibly in the process of writing a letter to the local health board. In the unfinished letter he appears to be defending himself about some sort of accusation. Family legend has it that he died of cholera after sleeping in the bed of someone who died of the disease in the hope of proving his theory ( I assume that you couldn't catch it in such a way). In the letter addressed to the Reverend John Howells he mentions 'I attended for the 'Ledhook?'' or something similar.
I was interested to find out what is the name of the 'hospital?' as I wondered would there be any record of Josiah & his theory.
I have a copy of his will & the letter was attached to it.
Many thanks,
    Kay

Will try, but don't hold your breath!!!! It's very poor ink, so may not show up too well. I can certainly transcribe it - apart from the all important word! No time at the minute, but will hopefully attempt it later today or this evening.

I did manage to scan & attach it, but I got a message saying it was too large for this site. If you are still interested send me a personal mail with your e-mail address & I can send direct to you. Either that or I can send a transcript.
   Thanks for your interest, Kay
