William and John NEAVES- completed thank you
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 13:25 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I think two of my Neaves family went to Australia  Grin
They are William bn c1827 Middlesex with his wife Mary Ann and his brother John bn c1835

I found them on Assisted passage Sydney and Newcastle, Australia
NEAVES John 19 sailed on Euphrates in 1855
NEAVES William 25 on Maidstone in 1853
NEAVES Mary A 18 on Maidstone 1853

but I don't know what happened to any of them after this. I would be very grateful for any information on them at all.

Many thanks
Rosie

Rosie, do you happen to be able to give us the names of their parents? It may be helpful in locating them, if indeed they did come to Australia.

Hi Rosie,

I see in 1841 William was aged 13, John was 5 (William was baptised in 1829, John in 1836.) Both seemed to have followed there fathers occupation as he is listed as a brickmaker.

Be sure to look at NSW BMD's.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

Looks like a fairly certain match for a death for Mary Ann in 1905 and maybe William in 1909. A Transcript of one of these certs would provide a lot of information.

Be sure to see the NSW Resources

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,369703.0.html

You will find links to information including what you can expect to find contained in these certificates and information on Transcription agents. (a cheaper and faster service than to actually order the certificate)

Hi Dee and Kris

Thank you both very much for replying to my post. I haven't done any research in Australia at all so very grateful for the links.  Grin

They are my extended family and I came across them after someone on here had mentioned the immigration lists containing lots of people from the villages in Cambridgeshire were on them. William the father came from Foxton though I have yet to establish Eliza's maiden name.

I have to confess to have been clutching at straws with these two as I hadn't established a marriage for William the younger though I have now found that and the information you gave confirmed I had the right one. When I also saw John mentioned and I hadn't found him in 1861 either I thought they just had to be right.

Thank you both, much appreciated

Hi Kris

Many thanks for the marriage, ironically in a parish not that far from where I live  Smiley   I presume that Ashfield where William was living is on the outskirts of Sydney - I couldn't see another one.  I've probably been through it when I came over there.  Huh

I will peruse the websites that you gave me later when I have some peace and quiet indoors  Grin
