William John Craig
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 15:42 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I am new to this, in fact this is my first day. I am looking for relatives of William John Craig who was a native of Ireland. He was born on January 26th,
1876.

William John Craig was baptized by Rev. John M.H. Cahill, Parish Priest, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Donegall Street, Belfast. The baptismal entry is No. 241.

I believe his Father was James Craig, married to Annie Murphy Craig.

I think these are their children-
James born 1864

Mary born 1866

Rachel born 1868

Daniel born 1871

William John born 1876

I found a copy of his birth registration on line - Willia John Craig

Birth:
26 JAN 1876
Belfast, Antrim, Ireland

Father:                        James Craig

Mother:                       Ann Murphy

A friend of our family went to the church where William was baptized and he got to see a copy of the registration, which stated that James and Annie Murphy Craig lived on New Lodge Road in Antrim.

William John Craig stowed away on a ship and it got shipwrecked off the Magdalene Islands in Canada. I know where the Craig's in Canada are, but am trying to find relatives in Ireland.

Most of the information that I have found so far is from the Mormon site.

I would be very happy to track down my relatives, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did your William John Craig marry and/or die in Canada? do those certificates list birthplace, birthdate or names of parents?

IGI (www.familysearch.org) lists 5 children for a James Craig and Ann Murphy-
1. James born 25 Sept.1865 Glenarm, Co. Antrim (page 575 in civil index)
2. Mary born 4 Dec.1866 Glenarm, Co.Antrim (page 598 in civil index)
3. Rachel born 29 Nov.1868 Co. Antrim **
4. Daniel born 2 June 1871 Co. Antrim ***
5. Willia[m] John born 26 Jan.1876 Belfast, Co.Antrim

If the above children are all from the same family it looks as though the Craig might have been from Glenarm and moved to Belfast between 1866-1871.
** Rachel's birth registered Larne district which covers Glenarm.
*** Daniel's birth registered Belfast district

Hi,

My William Craig died in the Magdalene Islands, Canada. The list of his brothers and sisters is from
the Mormon genealogy site, and I am hoping that it is accurate. He stowed away on a ship when he
was 14 years old. He left from Belfast.

Thanks for your help!
