Sailor's death
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 16:07 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to find the death/burial of a George Cass who was born c1797 in Whitby.  Haven't been able to find anything between the years 1833 (when last child was born) and 1851 when his wife is listed as widow.  She was in the 41 census too with her daughter and son but no George.  So I'm wondering if he might have died at sea - anyone know of any sites where that can be checked.

Thanks
Joanna

As I understand it, a death at sea would be recorded at the next port ie that parish.  The National Archives lists deaths at sea but these are not available on line
