Address search if possible - please???!!!!
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 16:44 UTC (UK) »

Hi all, to say I've hit a brick wall is an understatement!!! I'm really hoping someone out there is good at demolition.
My problem is my great great grandfather, John Johnson, I have him in the 1891 census, married with kids and living at Pollard Street in Manchester, I also have him in 1901 still married, with more kids living at Barlow street in manchester, he is a miller fireman.
I have managed to find his marriage cert, dated 3rd October 1881, John  Johnson to Isabella Ann Ackerley, fathers name John Johnson, address at time of marriage Burlington street, ashton under lyne.
Now I've searched the Johnsons in ashton in the 1881 census, and cant find any mention of burlington street, and isabella lived at hood street ( or wood street) ashton under lyne, again no mention in 1881, infact I cant find them at all in the 1881.
I know isabella lived into her 90s in 1948, but I have no idea when John died.
Can someone, if possible, do an address search for the 1881 census, for burlington street and hood street, ashton under lyne, and if anyone knows how I can find John Johnson jnr and senior, I would really appreciate the help. I have no idea of birth place or age, on the marriage cert he is 21.
Help me please!!!!!
Thanks, Benn.

You can search, free of charge, Burlington St., Ashton Under Lyme in the FMP 1881 address search. Any idea which house number as there are a lot of properties there.

Thanks for the reply, I will have a look at fmp, as for house number, on the marriage cert it looks like 85, but the writng is very 'swirly' and faded. I can clearly see 86 as the number for hood or wood street.

In the search box for the address, only put Burlington Street and Lancashire. Both Burlington and Wood St come up if you leave out the Ashton...... ,but the Ashton comes up in the resulting page.

Not a thing, I have looked at every address on both roads, with no sign of my john johnson, I guess he must have moved there between the april and october 1881. But from where?Huh
I did however find the address of the vicar who married them!!!!
So, back to square 1, and open to any suggestions.
Cheers,

For what it is worth:
There is a John Johnson aged 15 in the 1881C living at 6 OLD St. with David (age 43); Mary A. (46); and sister Sussanah (10)

Not yet found them in 1881, but I think this is Isabella in 1861.
Albion street Hopwood Lancs. Index as HAGGARTY.
I see from the 1871/1891/1901 her mum was Catherine & Dad James from Scotland. I've been trying to trace them back for you.
James Haggarty, aged 38. Cotton Carder. born Scotland.
Catherine Haggarty, aged 39, born Ireland.
William Henry Haggarty, aged 9. born Yorkshire.
Mary Haggarty, aged 8, born Lancs.
Hannah L Haggarty, aged 4. born Lancs.
Isabella A. aged 2. born Lancs.

On the 1881 William Henry is married & also living with them is Sarah Jane (sister).
Mary is a servant for a family. So my bet is that Isabella is on there as a servant too somewhere, as thats her occ on the 1871.
Up to now I've seen Catherine as a Ackerley. Hackley.

I think dad James died in 1873 aged 45 at Manchester,
Please let me know what you think.

hi frithy, thanks for your message, yes I have seen that, I'm waiting for Isabellas birth certificate to confirm that information, its just strange how there is nothing about her and John in 1881, unless I'm missing something!!!
I think this could be a dead end on the Johnson line, I have their marriage cert, and the census info from 1891 and 1901, and i can't think of anything else that I can use to trace him back???

I wouldnt take to much notice of the Wedding cert address.
Sometimes they jus used an address near the church so they could marry there, I've got people who married in Manchester with a manchester address when I know for certain they lived in Stockport Cheshire!
You will get Burlington St Ashton & number 85/86. Just type in address.. "burlington ashton under" . Leave out the Lyne as its usually misspelt. Do the same for Wood Street.
