James DOWELL marriage Ottery St Mary
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 18:10 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I'm having no luck trying to find the marriage of James Dowell to Sarah  abt. 1832  in Ottery St Mary. I believe Sarah's surname could be Godfrey. Can anyone help please?
Thanks, Louise.

Hi

Quote
I believe Sarah's surname could be Godfrey

Is that because there was a 70yr old Sarah Godfrey in the same household in 1841 or from the submitted IGI entry?  Whoever submitted the entry has shown a date of marriage of 24.11.1833 but whether it is the right marriage is not known

Births June qtr 1838

George Dowell    Honiton  10 119

A copy of George's birth cert will confirm Sarah's maiden name and ensure the right marriage is found

Hi Carole,
It looks like that could be the right marriage as their first child was born in 1834. I will get a copy of the certificate as you suggest, just to be sure.

Thank you
Louise.

Why not ask the Devon Family History Society for a printout of Dowell marriages (1813- 1837). It will supply you with the answer you are looking for, go to

Thank you, I didn't realise these printouts were available.
