death lookup, please 1838-1842

I'm looking for death information for William Rowbottom/Rowbotham,
died 1838-1842 born: probably about 1803, occupation: mechanic.
His son James was born in Manchester 16 Jan 1839.
His family is in Manchester without him in the 1841 census (wife Mary, independent).
His wife, widow Mary Ann Dalton, remarried in Manchester 24 Oct 1842

GRO lists 10 William Rowbothams who died in Lancashire 1838-1842.
Only one is in Manchester, but this is not him - is he one of the other nine?

Hi,

I would look at the Chorlton deaths on your list first. Only two of those!

Looking at the census, your family are on Nelson St in the London Road district, is that the right one?  That isn't quite part of the Chorlton registration district (I don't think) but its very close - Chorlton later became South Manchester and covered all points south of Piccadilly.

So you could ask for checks on those two deaths, specifying the occupation 'mechanic'.

Is there an address on James' birth cert?

Thank you!  Thanks for the information about Manchester geography. That is my family (1841), but they seem to move quite a bit:   

1839 Birth Entry for son James Rowbotham from GRO (Manchester No: 473):
Registration District: Manchester, Sub-district of Ancoats Manchester
Where born: at 15 Bradford Street

(1829 Manchester directory: Rowbotham Wm tool & lathemkr, 21 Timber st)
(1842 Manchester, widow Mary's address on remarriage: Nelson Street)


Chorlton was my guess too, based on this guess at William's ancestry:
marriage: Manchester Cathedral 25-12-1797 Daniel Rowbottom Harriot Royle IGI
baptism:  Manchester Cathedral 20-11-1803 William Rowbotham M Daniel Harriot ? IGI

baptism:  Chorlton Cum Hardy   31 MAR 1780 Harriot Royle F William Elizabeth
