Macclesfield society of friends....help!
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 03:26 UTC (UK) »

Hello all.

I have been attempting to trace the birth/baptism of my GGG Grandfather Edward Hyde, abt 1795-1800 Prestbury (his age is problametic from the variety of ages given on census). He had a son Thomas Hyde abt 1836 Macclesfield who married Hannah Proctor in 1855(I am yet to find his birth entry and this info is from his death cert which I have a copy of and the census info).

I have found an entry on the following site and notice that under the 'burial' info it states 'Macclesfield of Friends, Macclesfield, Cheshire'. What does this mean in terms of where he may be buried or where his birth records are located and his religion and is it possible that his father Edward Hyde, who I cannot locate records for is also a part of this same 'society of friends?

Plse help...any help would be grateful.

Regards...Lindsay

Hi lindsay.

The Society of Friends aka Quakers had their own meeting houses (churches) and burial grounds. They kept excellent records re: birth, death, marriage.

Your profile does not show where you are living but the following website states that Macclesfield Society of Friends records are on microfilm at the Macclesfield Library.  It also gives the mailing address, email address and phone number of the library.

Thanks for the reply dollyee......Im actually researching from Australia so its challenging getting hold of records. I have Thomas's death cert which says he died in Birch Vale, Derbyshire so I assume he was living around that area.

Thanks for your help.

It wouldn't hurt to send the library an email to see if they would look through the Quaker records for you.  They may possibly find his father and other family members in the records.

Some librarys are extremely helpful if they are aware you have no other access to the information.
