This photo shows my mother (June Cynthia Chalcraft) at left, with her friend Molly ? in the middle and an unidentified GI on the right. They are in Trafalgar Square, London, in July 1944. Any ideas how I might find out who the GI was?

Other than him being a Tech Sgt in the American Forces, there is very little to go on....No insignia is visible at all (well clear enough to make any comments).

I suspect that your chances of naming him after 75 years are negligible I'm afraid.

Assuming they knew him, best bet would be letters, diaries, family stories etc.

If they didnt know him, well, is it worth it?

Your chances of identifying him just from this photo are slim if there's nothing else.

Good luck!!

Hi both,

Thanks for your input. I've got a few bits to trawl through so if I come across anything I'll post it here.

Many thanks.
