Occupation -completed thanks
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 14:11 UTC (UK) »

I have an ancestor who's occupation is listed on the 1891 for Streatham, Wandsworth as a Bayman.  His wife is described as a Baywoman.

any ideas as to what a Bayman/Baywoman might do for a living?

If I have the right chap on the 1871 he is a pilots apprentice (his dad is a barge owner) so maybe something to do with the river Thames?

A bayman or bayweaver can also be someone who wove or worked with baize.

Possibly covering billiard tables.
